The only function a broker, left or right, is to pick up stock that Herb does not buy. They cannot do that forever, so finally their function is to phone you up and ask you if anyone you know can support your stock, since he (the broker) cannot take out the one million (probably naked short) offers at 50 cents. They are out of it, and you are high and dry as you had no warning of the problem. Their final function is to scoop up all your stock at 0.01 to elect new directors in order to find new business for your company and drop all your old claims which surrounded Aurelian (happened a few times to people I know). They are not the tech guys.

If you go to a broker, (who is the only one licensed to do non-prospectus stock distributions below 150K per person), for said distribution, -- they generally ask you who is going to buy the stock they are going to sell. Sometimes this works, as your sucker list, er, I mean your contact list of astute buyers, who feel that you guaranteed them discovery and upward price path, will more confidently buy off said third party brokeri. Sometimes. Don't believe they (said brokeri) will put their own clients in the stock unless it is really 80% their company from the get-go.
