Hmm.. I was going to post some thing about Eid and I see that already there is some discussion and misinformation about it.. Why am I not surprised ??

First of all there is no difference in terms of Sunni or Shia when Eid is celebrated.. Eid ul Fitr, 1st Eid which is celebrated at the end of Ramadan is not only based on the calendar but observation of crescent moon at the end of Ramadan and beginning of new month Shawwal..

So what happens when there is no crescent moon ? or the moon is only seen in some parts of the world and not others ? This is one time when one group or other end up celebrating Eid on different days.. and this is not uncommon.. Happens now and again.. and it happened this year with Eid ul Fitr.. and of course it gets carried into Eid ul Adha..

Eid ul Adha is a fascinating day and really really big event for muslims around the world.. A day of sacrifice and socializing and giving charity in a big way and the fact that it is being celebrated to acknowledge Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to obey god's command and sacrifice what was most precious to him, his son Ismael and equally important is son's willingness to be sacrificed.. Millions of sheeps, goats and cows will be butchered and the meat distributed to friends, family and the poor.. Just one of the more routine activity that happens around the world..

Notice, unlike other events in muslim calendar, this one has nothing to do with Prophet Mohammad..

And FWIW, I am celebrating Eid tomorrow..
