As usual I was a tad tardy but got there as it started.. Eid Namaz or any congregational prayers depends on the size of the gathering and how good the Prayer Leader is.. When every thing comes together, at times it can be a very intense experience.. Men, Women and Children are all present at our Centre.. But here is the thing about Prayers.. They are in Arabic and you are reciting parts of Qur'an but majority of the muslims are not Arabs and Arabic is not their mother tongue or not something they study even as a second language.. So some may understand every word of the prayers while others if they have read up the translation may get parts of the prayers or gist of it and yet for a lot of them, it is like attending mass in Latin is for Christians.. So Namaz is over and every body is exchanging Eid Mubarak.. Now it is basically social times.. Lots of two handed hand shakes, lots of hugging if you are the type (man to man) and cheek to cheek and hugs between women.. Man to woman is usually just exchanging Eid Mubarak, some may be fine with hand shakes and with close family member or family friends there may be some light hugs.. It all depends on the culture, community and the people involved.. No one universal rule on this.. Kids love Eid.. Twice a year but particularly Eid ul Adha is where they get Eidi ..which basically means, family members, friends etc. give some money to Kids.. Usually any where from 5-10 bucks so kids by the end of the day have raked in a tidy amount and of course are thrilled.. LOL.. This being a Sunday, every one was present.. A light lunch, sweets, coffee and tea, lots of socializing and it is over.. Family and friends if they are close might visit each other at homes but today being the last day of the year, there is also some function which actually has nothing to do with Eid but New Year so I have been roped into taking photos this evening.. Not a bad way to say good bye to 2006.. So here is wishing every one a healthy, happy and prosperous 2007..
