Obama's immigrant image could carry a lot of weight with the increasingly non-lily-pure-white sector of the electorate, especially if he is up against an older, more traditional WASPy male on the Republican ticket.

It's another dimension where Obama symbolizes something from the future rather than the past. But you are right that what he says and does will ultimately be more important than the image he projects.

I think Obama's plus is that he has lived the overseas experience. Yes indeed W. also lived that experience when his father was the Ambassador to China. But Obama lived t hat experience in his home when his mother had to live an adjust with a Indonesian step-father and possibly being reminded by his mother of his Kenyan roots.

In this age of globalization, there are emerging nations vying for political attention and a US President well versed in multicultural issues like Obama is, will be an asset to this nation.
