A century or a millennium is practically indistinguishable. It's true that we don't yet have true translation, but have you checked the latest voice recognition software? Don't you think that, if we don't self destruct, we will be able to create a computer of superior intelligence within a time frame a lot less than geological time?

Despite Moore's overoptimistic prediction, progress is made every month. It's a question of piling up multiple contexts for every word in both the two languages involved, a matter requiring many decades. There remain mainly organizational problems, i.e. assembling the money and the multiple talented people in a long term environment. In contrast, the robot that "sees" and has hand/eye coordination is in fact very very far away.
