There is no question in my mind that we will be able to build a strong AI machine in the not too distant future -- it doesn't really matter whether it's within 30 years or within 1000. In the worse case, we simply create a very close simulation of the human brain that runs a lot faster than the human brain. Our understanding of the human brain is still rudimentary, but it is advancing rapidly. Once we understand the human brain in detail we can recreate it with superior hardware, and we have our superior intelligence.
