"I wonder what they'll do to remove the stench of Bush?"

It depends on how bad it gets. If the Iraq war doesn't get much worse and the Democrats go back to their old ways, then it won't be much worse than the aftermath of Nixon. And that would mean a decade or so of not being taken seriously, and another decade or so of rebuilding. But if the civil war in Iraq were to go hot, or the Democrats launch sweeping investigations, or Bush does some really stupid things or any number of things, the Republican party can be divided and die as a national party. The GOP faces their biggest crisis in their history and their survival depends both on luck and the Democrats screwing up. Now if it depended on only the Democrats screwing up, they might have a shot. But to be lucky also?

If The Big One were to occur anywhere in California, or a major hurricane hits, or major tornadoes or flooding occurs, the Republicans are instant toast. FEMA is in no better shape than it was pre-Katrina/Rita.

"It was pretty clear that they intended to wipe out the taint of Watergate by hounding Clinton."

I wonder what they'll do to remove the stench of Bush?

Put in a dictatorship and then rewrite history!
