I have an electronic MPG gauge that shows the current MPG and the average, anywhere from 1 mpg to 99. If I keep the display showing the short term gauge, it gives me an incentive to drive in ways that use less gas in the short term but overall, whatever the long term gauge measures, it never dips below 19 in town, and never goes above 24 during a long vacation trip.
