Sorry, Crichton's posture on the Global Warming issue is well known, and a relatively lonely voice in the Polyanna crusade of denial of mountains of empirical data.

Too bad, I am a great fan of his writing and especially like ER.

Mr. Bowers,

Excellent post, but the discussions among your antagonists is faith-based. Empiricism, skepticism, and rigor have adequate substitutes: Bush-bashing, SUV-bashing, and big-business bashing.

Exxon makes HUGE profits. That is all one needs to know. Rumor still lingers that management actually sent secret code to the GPS on the Valdez, just so it would crash, executive lives would become simple again, and executive remuneration would explode. Pure genius by those ol' boys. I can't imagine why they haven't pulled the stunt again.
