I know no one who hates Jews when Israel is not involved, as it isn't between most people who live in the USA. Mel Gibson's outburst was a shocker unlike anything I can remember......ever.

This is a remarkable statement. Either you believe that anti-semitism didn't exist prior to 1948, or you think it somehow simply disappeared after WWII or at some time that I'm not aware of.

The reason anti-semites talk about Israel these days is pretty obvious. That isn't to say that everyone who criticizes Israel is an antisemite--hell, even I have criticized Israel at times. And I don't believe that Rashid Khalidi, who was quoted in the film and who has strongly criticized Israel vociferously and publicly, is an anti-semite. But if Israel didn't exist, anti-semites would find other "reasons" to "rationalize" their views--they always have. And, indeed, some people who are supporters of Israel are actually anti-semites, IMO--this includes many fundamentalist Christians who have put Israel into their own little mythology on the end of the world.

This really is my last reply, I don't have time for this.
