Apple now has a higher market cap than Nokia. Steve Jobs says "everyone hates their phones" and (some) people just accept that without thinking. He says that everyone needs a phone that requires two handed operation with no tactile feedback, and (some) people say they have to have it. At a time when most analysts are negative on the cell phone industry because of declining ASPs and fear of "commoditization", Steve Jobs offers a 2.5G phone with the most expensive price tag, and (some) people says "it's a winner!". Go figure.

Go Nokia!

>>You have to give Jobs credit for his ability to command attention for any new product direction - but entering the new field of cellphones he expectes to sell 10 million annually be 2008, despite a $500 price? Is Cingular going to subsidize the price and offer it for $200 or so?<<

sisuman -

Five hundred bucks is the subsidized price. (Six hundred for the 8GB model.) You get the iPhone at that price only with a two year Cingular contract.
