The main problem is presumably who to support. Should it be Shiite murderers on behalf of Sadr and the Iranian Islamic Jihadists, or Sunni murderers, who the USA has gone to great efforts to overthrow.

You start with the position that as a group, there are no "good guys." Since the Shiites are in the majority, and running the government, you start with them and try to restrain their desire for genocide against the Sunnis. Then you hope that you can hurt the Sunnis bad enough to get them to make a deal with the Shiites.

At the same time, you have to realize that all sides in Iraq and the ME are well aware that half of our leadership wants to cut and run. Makes it very difficult to do anything.

What will happen short term? We will pacify Baghdad. Long term, God only knows.
