"It's what I am telling you...if they stop the funds and the war, they are blamed for it and mccain wins."

Precisely. Look at the discussion I am having with Tim. He is totally convinced that the reason why Saigon fell is that the Democrats cut off funding for South Vietnam. Despite the fact that the funding cutoff was to have occurred well after Saigon fell. So now the reason is that the US didn't provide military support. But the decision to not provide support was done by Ford, not by Congress. We had assets in the area, Ford could have done it.

Yet the reason for the fall of Saigon still rests solely on the Democrats. Go figure.

The Democrats need to break out of the script the White House has written for them and remind Americans that the war in Iraq is a dangerous distraction from other pressing threats to U.S. security, such as nuclear proliferation and the rise of militant Islam worldwide. They need to emphasize that withdrawal from Iraq isn't about "defeat" — it's about shifting our troops, our money and our energy to the real challenges that the Bush administration is ignoring or exacerbating.

At this point, the Republicans win by losing in Iraq — as long as they can blame the loss on the Democrats. And unless they find a way to refuse to play the game, the Democrats will just lose.

It's what I am telling you...if they stop the funds and the war, they are blamed for it and mccain wins. I don't get how you see this article as dems working on it presumably still stopping the war. You have to help me out here.

What I am trying to point to you is that the Dems are anticipating how the GOP is going to spin it and taking steps to prevent it like the ones pointed out in the article.

For the past year/maybe longer, the Dems have shown us that they learned something during their exile. They know their enemy much better. With each win, they become more adroit in outmaneuvering the GOP. Did you look at the list of items they picked to do in their first 100 hours? They picked items that the GOP would be hard pressed to oppose, and in doing so, they've gotten more important legislation accomplished in one hundred hours than the GOP did in 4 years.

The author of the article is already anticipating how the GOP will spin a refusal to fund the surge aand is finding ways to prevent it........that's the kind of anticipatory thinking needed now. Its the kind of evasive maneuvering that's critical. In the meantime, the Dems are isolating Bush even from his own party. They are building a case that this surge is not only foolish but reckless. Should Bush have the cojones to go forward without Congress's support, the Dems will have prepared America for Bush's and Cheney's impeachment.......and it may come to that.

CJ says Bush likes to play chicken so impeachment may be in the cards. Personally, I think he likes his own neck better than that and can see the writing on the wall. That's why this weekend he's trying to throw it back into the Dems lap by asking them to come up with a viable alternative. In the end, I do think the Dems will come up with a viable alternative that leads to America's withdrawal from Iraq. And Bush will have no choice but to go along with it.

Remember........one of the things we've learned...........the GOP is made up of a clever Karl Rove and a lot of dummies. So long as Rove had Americans and Dems duped, it worked. But he's not fooling anyone anymore and the dummies are running around like chicken littles. I know why you're freaking out but wait a while.....I think this one will go our way too. It just will take some time to play out.
