Do the Muslims use PA systems in the Middle East? Even in the small towns/villages?? My bet is no, they don't. They've been praying for centuries, and PA systems are a USA invention of less than 100 years.

I spent a few days in Turkey last year, and I was surprised to find that the mosques all seemed to have loudspeakers mounted outside, even in relatively small villages like Sirince, with a population of just over 500. Interestingly, I didn't see a single Muslim interrupt his daily activities to pray. Now, Turkey is a militantly secular country, but I would have expected to observe at least a few devout Muslims fulfilling one of the 5 Pillars of Islam.

The P.A. thing wasn't limited to mosques; the churches in even the smallest towns in the Greek Islands I visited also had speakers, and their Sunday services were broadcast at a pretty high volume.
