"I believe it and that has destroyed the party, at least for the time being."

I know. And it doesn't make me a happy camper. It is one thing to lose in an election cycle. It is quite another to totally discredit your party.

"the ones who cast the votes aren't the lobbyists"

Unfortunately, the lobbyist's employers provide the money to convince the voters who to vote for. A big problem with our system, that money = speech.

A recent flapdoodle here in Utah, maybe the MOST Republican state in the country, was a local company who's owner gave 28 of his employees $2000 with instructions to contribute it to a local candidate and get around the individual contribution limit of $2000! The opponent complained.

Result? Nothing. No laws were broken here in Utah. Unless a law is passed against the practice, it's perfectly legal. No plans are in the works to bar the practice in the state.
