Considering that a high end receiver can easily cost more than a high end PC and that the AMD Live Box and the receiver will occupy roughly the same space in most systems why not incorporate the two together.

Perhaps you answer your own question in the same sentence.

"Considering that a high end receiver can easily cost more than a high end PC."

If it costs that much AMD and the box makers would be reluctant to implement it, esp. as a the base of the standard.

<Anyone see why AMD Live can't incorporate the functions of an AV receiver in the box?>

Personally, from my own experiences with my home theaters, I would prefer to keep them separate. I am going to invest in an HTPC shortly (as I am waiting for Vista MCE) but I don't want anything to do with high-definition television on it because of the Cablecard situation. I just want the platform to stream my DVD movies and all of my uncompressed CDs. I am in the process of deciding which equipment I need/want.

I prefer the receiver to be a fairly locked down environment as to avoid conflicts. I can't even imagine an amplification section in an AMD Live platform. Too many variables with a Windows environment for it to be stable but I believe it will be stable enough for my application as I prefer not to waste my money on a Kaleidoscape system as well as a Request when shortly in the future the same functionality will be much cheaper (as long as people fight DRM!!).

Just say NO to Apple!!
