"You have to be there.... on paper anything can be justified. Especially if you come from a preconceived ideology."

Precisely.

"I remember him arguing with me about being subject to the draft in 1968 was no big deal. "

You and I are from the same era. The idea that my government could enslave me and send me to a foreign land to murder people I didn't know and had no beef with seemed insane to me. My government seemed insane. I resisted and dodged the draft, with help from retired former Army officials against the Vietnam war.

I'm proud I did, and I'd do it again today. I'd counsel any young person to do the same in Iraq. But, if America were actually attacked by a foreign country, I'd join in a minute.

I never said that.

on paper anything can be justified. Especially if you come from a preconceived ideology.

Which is perhaps why you and Combjelly both support price controls (at least in certain circumstances)
