"CJ, let's get one thing straight: Libertarianism is not anarchy."

It depends. Libertarianism has more different factions than the Baptists. And they are on a continuum from not much different from what we have, to total anarchy. Now it may be an accident of geography, but most of the libertarians I have run across lean towards the anarchy end of things. Because Texas doesn't go for much in the way of regulations, being on the mild end of the libertarian scale doesn't make a whole lot of sense. That just makes you a Democrat or a Republican.

"Beyond that, however, libertarians believe that it not the government's job to mold, shape, and actively sustain society"

Well, government is an extension of society. It isn't a separate entity. As a result, it winds up doing those things whether it is supposed to or not.

Beyond that, however, libertarians believe that it not the government's job to mold, shape, and actively sustain society. If the power of the collective is to be harnessed, that should be done outside of a government context.

It'll never happen.

When left to "the collective", the weakest in a society are the ones to suffer. People who have wealth and power tend to be greedy and unlikely to share.

Libertarianism is just an excuse to do whatever benefits your self interest; like Tim's profiteering scheme.
