I understood you just fine on the 15 year example. But, Bush DID say, many times, that the effort in the Middle East would be a long-term affair, continuing well past his presidency, and that it wouldn't be cheap or without loss of American lives. He made that point emphatically even before the committment began in Af'stan.

I'm not of a mind to go look up references for you, but if you go look at his speeches before troops were involved, I'm sure you can find such references.
