Miniscule in terms of our consumption of gas. Please keep in mind the big picture is to make it so that we are not dependent on any other country for our oil use. In that context, our ethanol use is still miniscule. If he wants to make a real dent, then he should go much further than 5 time increase. More like a 20 times increase or even more would be needed.

Then he wants to increase the use of ethanol by 5 times? So that takes us from miniscule use to 5 times miniscule use, which still equals miniscule use.

Its hardly minuscule use. Maybe E100 or even E85 has minuscule use, but E10 is very common.

particularly - "In 2008, U.S. ethanol production will consume 139 million metric tons of corn, roughly half the nation’s corn crop"

Of course that's an estimate, but even if its only half of that it would be a quarter of the nations corn crop. I fail to see how you can consider that minuscule.

Tim, your numbers are screwed up......when are you going to learn to stop going to the right for your numbers? I guess you don't know this but when the right doesn't like something they try to scare people.....hence the ethanol horror stories.

In fact, according to the USDA, ethanol production takes up 14% of the US corn crop:
