The GOP can stop Obama by declaring he's a black Muslim, very liberal (socialist radical they're calling him now) and pals of Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan. Sound unfair? Sure it is, but these are Republicans.

The logic on their side is that if you can present a radical image of a democrat you can stop them from getting to the 50% plateau where winning starts becoming possible. The Dems actually need about 51% of the vote to win because of the electoral college tilt toward the GOP. The problem for Obama is in about 8 states which are predominantly white, moderate-conservative and necessary to win, that is at least 6 out of 8 of them. You put him up against a guy like Romney and he'd have a hard time.

I am beginning to believe McCain is going down. His attaching his name to Bush's disasterous surge could be lethal. Romney is a more viable alternative than Guiliani. But that could invite in Warner who would be a formidable foe for Dems. He has gravitas coming out his ears. So we'd need Gore or Kerry to beat him.
