When the Navy phased out the S3 aircraft my son was crew on, they decided the major submarine danger was about gone. They use P3 aircraft nowadays to track subs and it's land based. My son said the big concern is that a country like Syria or Iran will try to float a used Russian sub up the Hudson River with a Nuke aboard. Those aren't so hard to track, fortunately.
