Understandable. I guess, like any profession, one would take a look at the potential compensation vs. the cost of the education, etc. and make a choice.

Governments set compensation for military, teachers, just to name two professions. And of course compensation is set for all govt. workers, inc. POTUS and Congress. Don't forget also that the compensation for docs and nurses at state and federal medical facilities is set by gov.

Huge numbers of people work directly for governments and their compensation is set by governments. Most of them are loving it, which is why they are government employees instead of having real jobs where people CHOOSE to buy their services instead of being forced to "buy" their services on pain of death.
