Thanks for the thorough answer. My parents visited a tomato farm an hour or two from Willcox, AZ (not far from Tucson) -- hydroponics I think and all indoors. They burn NG to keep the place warm in the winter and pump *all* the CO2 into the greenhouses in order to feed them. For most of the year, they have to bring in the CO2. Still... just a tiny dent overall.

In the big scheme of things (the next 10000 years) the carbon emission energy will be but a blip. So by my way of thinkin' let's save that stuff for pharmaceuticals and mass transit (e.g. jet fuel) and plastics and get going on the solar & derivatives.
