If Iraq wants to form a free trade alliance with Iran, that's wonderful. Anything to normalize the status of both countries is a good thing.

The poor would have more if, instead of spending our tax dollars on vast bureaucracies, people gave directly to the poor.

What is your definition of "poor"? Income? Education? Not living in Hollywood where the people there are NOT so generous?

One Grandmother was "poor"....She certainly was by todays standards of low income, that's for sure. BUT she always said she wasn't "poor".....she said instead "In this country, where there is a will, there's a way."

That concept seems foreign to many young people.

She baked things for her friends. She made clothing for those less fortunate than she was...she went to the Salvation Army, gathered up pieces of clothing with buttons and zippers, and that were in good shape, cut them apart, and made new pieces of clothing for herself and others. She was a Betsey Johnson of her day...

She was an example of MANY people whose parents were 1st generation Americans, and who were born in the late 1890's. They coped. Yes, they were poor, by your standards.

They also believed "God helps them that help themselves"...

And Heaven forbid, if ANYONE had the guts to offer them charity or patronize them.
