You can also run geothermal in lakes under the ice or deeper into the ground. Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki are kept a little milder than other northern latitudes by the Gulf Stream current from the Gulf of Mexico that transfers heat to northern Europe. Moscow is just cold.

Geothermal is used widely in Sweden. Many new homes come with geothermal systems.

I heard Alaska is receiving record snowfall this winter. We've hardly had any snow down here along the northeast coast of the U.S. Just a trace amount here and there. Nothing really measurable. It's cold though. Highs in the teens over the next few days.
