The oil companies are deliberately screwing us whenever they want, which is most of the time. That's why they need to be regulated. Since June 2000 especially, when Bush-Cheney were first nominated and Enron was their de-regulation (gouging, grand theft energy) guru, Big Oil sided with one political side, became totally partisan and started price-fixing and turning against the interests of US consumers and taxpayers.

One of the lies you hear out of Big Oil is that they want more refineries but no one will let them build them. BS. They are deliberately limiting supply in order to jack up prices. Also remember, prices were soaring until Jeffords switched parties. Then suddenly an energy glut. And after Katrina prices were soaring until congress called in the oil CEO to testify. Suddenly prices plummeted. And Saudi Prince Bandar offered to bring down prices to help GW get re-elected. This poroves they can manipulate prices any time they want, usually upwards though.

Don't you see? It's all a hugely corrupt fix. It's like organized crime times a thousand. Big oil has way-way-way too much political power, especially inside this Bush administration. And this at the exact time when we need to wean ourselves off oil completely as a fuel, not only to avoid more wars in the Middle East but to stop global warming and pollution which is really having disasterous effects.
