If the world demand for base metals increases even more to try to curb global warming, that's great, but that could happen whether human-induced global warming is for real or not.

This is, of course, the relevance for the topic here.

Although it is tangential to the thread, the controversy has a significant bearing on the topics, much as Peak Oil is appropriate on the energy thread.

There is no question that the amelioration of GW, regardless of its cause, will lean heavily on copper, uranium, zinc, nickel, moly and other metals in strategies to reduce reliance on burning of fossil fuels for energy.

And the real reason there is opposition to it is that there is a broad realization on the part of the nay-sayers that GW will be key in the 2008 elections.

The GB contingent knows that the realization of the significance of GW as a real issue versus the made up Iraq/WOT BS, will be the key to real leaders assuming control of the country.

A GW discussion is a proxy for discussing the impending presidency of Al Gore, hence they get their briefs in a bunch.
