>>>"Anyone given any thought of GOOG acquiring QCOM??"<<<

Not me, and I think it's reckless unresponsible speculation?

Keitel made the point that the company continues to believe shares are undervalued but often does not feel that purchasing shares would be ethical because of the many positives undisclosed to the market.

When will this "undisclosed positives" will be announced?
There are probably some shares purchased because of that statement by Q's CFO, and some people might defer selling the stocks awaiting for the news.

If the news is not forthcoming in the near term, Q could be a target for class action suit. And that's ugly for every side: the shareholders and the company. The only one smiling will be Mr. Lerach and Mr. Weiss.

Anyone given any thought of GOOG acquiring QCOM??

No, but I do agree with Jeffrey that we've yet to see the event that could interfere with buyback patterns. Here's some more "reckless unresponsible speculation" on what it might be.

Spinco is a comin' but it's not QCT that will be spun off. It will be QTL. The rest of the company will remain essentially intact. Altman will become CEO of the new entity. PJ will remain CEO of QCOM, with Sanjay as Pres. IJ will wear two hats as chairman of both boards.

The new entity, which will be really despised by the cabal, will be an all-IP company. They'll call it IP INYOUR FACE Inc. It will retain much of existing IP but seed to QCOM whatever it needs to negotiate x-licenses with whomever. QCOM will be contractually bound to sell newly developed inventions (IP), or any acquired IP, to IPIYF in exchange for continued supply of R&D monies.

IPIYF will need no x-licenses. It will continue to license IP on FRANDLY terms to all comers. Though at somewhat reduced margins than the existing QTL in that it will supply R&D funds to QCOM.

Note: This "event" would not be inconsistent with PJ's claim that a QCT spinoff is not on the table (note tricky TRIPLE negative); or the recent promo of Sanjay to COO for a little OJT; or the recent cessation of QCT royalty payments to QTL; or out smarting Nokia.

:-)
