I apologize for not making my reference clearer. The Outer Limits was a Sci-Fi show, most famous in the 1960s. Its most famous episode involved scientists from around the world who were so concerned that the governments of earth were spiraling into a violent confrontation from which there could be no recovery that they (the scientists) came up with a plan. They had one of their own tranformed by surgery into what appeared to be an alien...then crash-landed him with a message that the aliens were on their way and preparing to take over the earth. The theory was that the governments of earth would pull together in this time of imminent danger against a shared threat.

In the particular episode the scientist who was transformed died, having given up everything he loved for a greater good. The episode was very famous and defined the series. Similar themes in Sci-Fi have been around for a long time.....the need for a greater common enemy to get us to put aside our smaller, petty differences.

For Global Warming to fit the bill, everyone has to agree it exists and that it can be affected by human action. The administration, until lately, has not been too keen on that concept.

Pretty neat...never missing a chance to editorialize away about something you admitted to knowing nothing about.
