"Well we get daily body counts now from somewhere. I don't know if they are valid, or not. "

How old are you? We got daily body counts during Vietnam. When I was a preteen, I realized that if the body counts were valid, we would totally depopulate all of Vietnam in less than a decade or two. Body counts are the epitome of WAGs. There is a Doonesbury cartoon that illustrates the point. BD, having volunteered for Vietnam, is standing by his CO who is describing to his CO about the firefight they had just experienced. The radio asked about the body count, and BD's superior turns to BD and asks what the date is. BD responds, and his CO repeats that number as the body count.

Body counts don't mean squat.

"If they say an explosion on ABC street killed 4 people and 14 bodies arrive in the morgue, someone will cry foul."

Who would cry foul? And that assumes that all of the bodies would arrive at the morgue. Which, given the degree of disorder, is not the case.
