That is certainly a most noble and appealing goal if the present Administration is indeed sincere in its undertaking. However, as I and not a few Muslims see it, the American goal is not so much with establishing democracy as it is with controlling the "Black Gold" or oil of the Middle East to ensure America's global dominance. No wonder the Muslims are doing their damnedest to resist the invaders. Oh yeah, why let them steal your wealth? As it is impossible to force any group or country to embrace democracy, and especially when DEMOCRACY is an alien concept to the Arab psyche, the Americans should not have tried it, to begin with. I didn't advocate a cut-and-run philosophy. That is your unfortunate perception. The Bushies coined that phrase to blackmail dissenters. Cheap shot on your part! What I have in mind is an honourable withdrawal. Surely, 'tis better to spend the money for home improvement and whatnot than on some "ingrates" in the Middle East, don't you think? The Middle East is not yet ripe to adopt Democracy. Let it evolve of its own accord. Don't ram things down people's throats. The West will do well not to judge others by its own standards which, if truth be known, are repugnant/alien to others. Look at China! It is not a democracy; yet the country is flourishing. Is democracy really necessary or is it the sine quo non for all nations on Earth? I don't think so. I believe each country can fare well with what works within it. The troubles we see today are due largely to a predatory/covetous nation like the US attempting to sieze control of weaker nations' oil and other vital minerals behind the facade of establishing oh,-the-ever-so-desirable-and-magical DEMOCRACY.......... .
