The other stuff, for ex. the swift boaters anger at Kerry's youthful anti-war efforts was nothing more than them expressing an opinion to which they were entitled.

Well, we certainly agree on that point.

And to me, this was the most important message they got out. He attacked the integrity of the men he served with, just to get ahead.

As for the medals, I never cared about that. I was never in a military family but know enough about how government works to know that gaming the system from the inside goes on incessantly, so puffing yourself up for a medal is small potatoes. Kerry comes from a very old, well-connected family. People like that get favors done for them, no point crying about it.

Perhaps I put too much reliance on Catch-22, the novel, but that's a perennial best-seller because it's so true to life.
