"Whats with all these Choppers being shot down? 5th one now in 2 weeks...." Fly high... and advanced missiles are a threat. Fly low, and small arms can get a bead on you (especially when they are tipped-off about departures by Iraqi 'allies'... or when the routes to certain persistent hot zones are well known). It took the Afghan's several years before they developed the expertise (and were supplied with advanced missiles), enabling them to turn the corner on the Soviet helicopters. Now, it looks like the same elements are developing in Iraq (with Chinese & Russian missiles coming in through Iran, and practice improving the kill rate of the Iraqis with small arms).... PAST time to leave and let matters turn into a Sunni vs. Shia, Saudi vs. Iran civil and religious war. The very best development that could realistically happen in the short-term to advance Western strategic interests throughout the Middle East.
