"Okay, how would the US do that?" Easy. First (and most important) step: STOP TRYING TO PREVENT the civil war. Get out of the middle, (pull troops back to Kurdistan, Kuwait, Turkey, etc.) and let the artificial nation of 'Iraq' be the battleground between Sunni (& Saudi) and Shia (& Persian) interests. STOP being 'Uncle Sucker', pouring our own blood and national treasure out doing the fighting for people who do not think kindly about us... who do NOT share our interests. (The greatest beneficiary of Saddam's overthrow has been IRAN. Time to stop fighting for their interests... or for the Whabbist extremists who spawned al Qaeda!)
