I think you are thinking of the coal mine disaster in Nova Scotia, not zinc.

Agreed, NFLD generally sensible about mining although some from Inco/Voisey's may not agree:) I actually don't remember the incident you refer to but there is constant howling about open pit coal permits and even huge issues on rock quarries here, both NIMBY/ECO reactions. My pointis I would expect the same for ADA'S hope for goldmines, open pit or otherwise and cyanide usage too.
