Obama "has introduced his own end-the-war plan that goes beyond a split-the-difference condemnation of the current escalation. His bill sets a beginning (May) and an end (March 31, 2008) for the phased withdrawal of combat troops, along with certain caveats to allow American military flexibility as “a big, difficult, messy situation” plays out during the endgame. Unlike the more timid Senate war critics, including Hillary Clinton, Mr. Obama has no qualms about embracing a plan with what he unabashedly labels “a timeline.” o

Note this reporter needs to clarify their writing as it is not clear as written whether Obama is specifying May 2007 or May 2008------the syntax of the sentence leaves ambiguity.

This is the main issue on which I disagree with Obama. This was not a "dumb war" as he so inarticulately calls it.

Obama's plan as reported in the press is nothing more than political posturing.

If the troops are out by March 31st of 2008 he will take credit for his plan claiming that he pushed Bush et al into withdrawing.

If the troop withdrawal does not start by May 2007 or 2008 then he can posture in the political arena of Presidential politics keeping the pot boiling----claiming that if my plan had been followed we would be out.

Everytime America and our allied nations leave a war unfinished we find that we will be back in future years dealing with the same.

Bush and the rest of Congress are not naive----they know that the Middle East is a cauldron that must be addressed and our troops must be supported as well as the people who believe in freedom in those countries.

We know that Obama thinks this is a "dumb war". I would like to hear about the times when he would support war------think he needs to give examples.
