>>" The presence of American troops on South Korean soil IS the guarantee of security. 30,000 troops is hardly enough for an invasion of North Korea, but it's enough to deter the North from invading the South. "<<

So 30,000 American troops can deter 1.5 million (or something such as that number) North Koreans? Why is that? Cannot 30,000 South Koreans do the same thing? Is there something about 30,000 Americans that scares the North. What is that?

>>" What guarantee of security can America provide if the troops are pulled out? At least the North knows that China will automatically rush to its defense if America invaded. "<<

What if the North knew that China and America would "automatically rush" to the the defense of the South if the North invaded and the North knew that America and China would "automatically rush" to the defense of the North if the South invaded?

Gee, that might take some creative diplomacy and treaty making. Naah, can't have that...let's increase the "defense" budget and build some more nukes.
