.. and would add that all currencies are in the same boat not only the USD.

Sliding of the USD will instantly generate problems in the emerging markets as US buyers will have no money to buy and useless widgets will pile up in warehouses but raw materials subcontractors and wages must be paid

contrary to the gold bugs I think in extreme situation fertile farming land with a big enough family well versed in handling guns to protect the land would be the best survival solution in extreme situations.

Where would one sell his gold and what he will receive in return if the system collapses and severe unrest spreads ? few pounds of meat and other consumable for one bar of gold?
