Socialism/communism has been relatively poor at producing wealth.

A hybrid socialistic/capitatistic system as been very effective at producing wealth. The Scandinavian countries are some of the wealthiest in the world. Even the old Soviet Union under a faux communistic regime produced a great deal of wealth. Unfortunately, a high level of corruption and foreign wars in places like Afghanistan were its undoing.
