The growth rate of solid state media density will probably not meet the demand for storage. I would expect a much longer life for magnetic media. In five years we might see the starting of the cutover from moving parts. There will be a need for solid state in mobile devices and in other areas. You just can't replace a 1 terrabyte drive with flash yet. In five years it might be the petabyte space that is held by drives.

FWIW - Just installed my new memory in preparation for Vista. It has gone from 1GB to 3GB, which should help make my computer acceptable with Aero.
