Joe Wilson had no WMD experience, and no investigative experience. All he could do is drink tea with the officials of Niger. You would send Joe Wilson if you wanted to hear official denials, not the true story. The funny thing is, the officials didn't even deny the story, so Joe Wilson had to come back and lie about it in the NYT! You do admit that he told different stories to the Senate Intelligence Committee and the NYT, don't you? He also kept denying that his wife got him the gig.

Sending a non-lacky is not the same thing as sending a partisan for the opposition - Joe Wilson was already attached to Kerry campaign, obviously angling for a post.

The CIA behaved completely unprofessionally from the start. Unless you view the whole endeavor as laying a trap for the White House. In that case, it worked pretty well. Would that the CIA could be as effective against our enemies.
