Crime wise, the US is like a third world country.

What does that mean? Third world, and non-third world countries each have vastly different crime rates, there is no simple third world rate to contrast to "1st world" rates.

Also crime in the US has generally been going down for decades, at the same time as the number of guns has greatly increased. Meanwhile crime in a number of European countries that control guns to a greater extent has gone up, or not gone down as much.

To the extent that we still have a high crime rate, that is a justification for private ownership of guns, as they can be used to protect against crime.
