If that is so how come they have said over and over they trust American soldiers more then Iraqi soldiers to patrol their neighborhoods? jdn

I'm not sure who you mean - but I assume you mean the Sunni? Well of course the Sunni want Americans to patrol as they hate the Shia - that is what makes this all so complicated.

I read a book recently of a guy who walked across Afghanistan retracing the steps of the silk road (The Places in Between; Rory Stewart). While it was in Afghanistan, it gave a great picture of the differing religions and ethnic allegiances - and the problems we face by not separating out these groups and understanding who they are and what they represent. Fantastic and easy read. Rory by the way was a Scot and once again neither pro nor anti war.

we do not see it through american eyes but the eyes the msn want to present to us. like the bbc, nyt wash post. boston globe.

I thought we went to afghanistan to bomb the crap out of Al Q. for 911. Why do the democrats want us to leave iraq and concentrate on Afghanistan if the problem is really in Pakistan. do we care about Afghanistan ? i believe all the countries that pledge dollars to help out in reconstructing the country have never come up with the money. What is the fixation with people who want to pull out of Iraq and finish the job in Afghanistan? the country is so backward, so many tribes and it appears the world has a lack of complete interest to help out. I guess its like iraq we will be in Afghanistan and fight those who come over the mountains and through valleys from Pakistan like we fight Iranians and syrians who come into Iraq. Only we can now change from Iraq to Afghanistan and democrats will be happy. It seems to me we only change territory and afghanistan escalates because we have more troops there and other world troops pull out like they did in Iraq. Then is 2012 democrats start up we need to go back into iraq and what ever the adm that is in power from 2008 completely mislead us into going back into Afghanistan and we should be having direct talks with Pakistan which may be a country like North korea by then.
