As much as I enjoyed Bonfire and A Man in Full, I think I like Wolfe's non-fiction best. He is the Mark Twain of our day. When A Man in Full came out, John Updike, Norman Mailer, and John Irving wrote pieces that dismissed it as light entertainment. In response, Wolfe wrote an essay called The Three Stooges that absolutely skewered those guys. He pretty much said they were irrelevant. My favorite literary feud ever. :)
