Generally speaking, I'm in that group that thinks presidents shouldn't take either blame or credit for the economy. Our economy marches to its own tune for the most part and responds to factors outside legislative control. Demographics being the best example of an outside factor. But tradition assigns a president blame and/or credit, so I'll go along. As for the economy under Bush, it has been strong. I don't have any research on the MSM treatment of the two economies you mention to evaluate your suggestion of bias. Negativity then and now which would be justified, imo, would be that which focused on these items: Stagnant growth in wages for the last 20 years Widening gap between the upper quintile and lower quintile of american wage earners (going on for 20 years) Growing trade deficit The negativities, however, that are unique to the Bush admin. are: Weaker job creation than Clinton years Higher inflation Huge budget deficits Many economic commentators point to the enormous deficit spending the Bushies have embraced to goose the economy and they aren't too impressed. Remember the Clinton economy was strong IN SPITE OF cuts in govt. spending and the raising of taxes. Thus economists consider the structure of the Clinton economies as more sound and more sustainable.

Tell me there is no bias in the MSM It seems to me that the MSM, in the beginning was either quiet or was quite supportive of the right-wing ideology on the two biggies: tax cuts and the war on terror (inc. the Iraq invasion) I heard no complaints from the right back then. Now the failure of the war and the huge deficit spending that has occured has led the MSM to become rightfully critical. Again, I have to ask you to tell me what are the accomplishments of this administration? If you can provide those, supported by facts and figures, then I could agree with you folks on the right that the MSM is biased.
