Yes, the Khmer Rouge were bad enough that you have to grateful to anyone who stopped them, just as I have to be grateful to Stalin for stopping Hitler on the Russian front in WWII.

You know, just because I couldn't google up the totals in the first five minutes is hardly proof that nothing happened. Totals of dead under any communist collectivization plan are matters of estimate, like the 6 to 7 million Ukranians estimated starved at Stalin's orders. 500,000 people don't flee a relatively small country on desperate rickety boats because they are living good lives.
