Our own western extremists have picked up the reactive extremist agenda and threatens our cause from within." Can you elaborate on that with an example?" The fear, realistic or not, in this country is related to attacks that would come from extremist Muslims. We haven't had many Muslims in America go postal but there have been a few violent events over the past few years. Yet the general fear that things could change and we could see violent conflicts between various groups persists. It is a general fear because there is a general uneasiness among us. The pot seems to be bubbling and we hope it will be a nice stew rather than a mess caused by the lid flying off. I'm no fortune teller. My hopes are for the nice stew but I don't see that happening by accident and not because one group is working for it while others are working against it. Everyone must work together in the spirit of common goodness. My comments about extremist threats from within identifies two sources of threat. One of those is the threat from terror cells that are hidden deep in the underground of our society. The other is from Western extremists who seem to think the best way to get a 'win' is to force the issue by oppressing and persecuting weaklings from the Muslim population until they act out in their frustration. I am happy to say I can't identify an example of either at this point. Yet, I've no doubt the threats are real. All lucid people consider the worth of their life on Earth. People who've been thrown into a crisis are more likely to worry about whether their life is worthwhile than those who are busy and comfortable with the status quo. I can easily identify Muslims in the USA who are here because of the misfortunes of their home land. Many are struggling to make ends meet and some unsuccessfully. In general we are looking at a fairly resilient population that has come from worse conditions and have survival attitudes. However, we all know it doesn't take much to push people over the edge when they are at the end of their rope and can't identify worthwhile venues. Normally when we can't define what we are doing in our lives as worthwhile we make decisions about what needs to change, most people experience that regularly. The person who sees no where left to turn and is being told he is unwelcome in his land of residency, even identified by a 'nuke em' all' comment, or a 'soon there will be no Moslems' comment ... gives me cause for worry. They may be driven deep into the secret life of a terror cell or they may just act out on their own. "Also, you wrote "We can work together to identify real threats and strategise to protect ourselves from harm". Is that any different than the "war on terror" which is where we are at now? I mean to say, if we don't neutralize the totalitarian ideology, we'll spend the rest of our days threatened by it. Did I read you wrong? It is not different for me but for me that includes white supremecist bigots with a counter totalitarian ideology within our own country who have WWIII aspirations; and who see the potential for Muslim events within our borders as an avenue to bring that about. These bigots are no less than tools of Radical Islam, who will use every opportunity to incite social discord. The 'War on Terror' has accurately been clarified as a war on extremism by Bush. Extremism knows no borders, ethnicity, religion, tribe, or dogma. Unfortunately the only strategy some people can imagine is curing extremism in other cultures. When everybody thinks that way we have a formula for Armageddon. We are doing lots to address Muslim militancy and that is an effective start. On its own, however, it is only a bandade on a festering wound.
