The name of this thread is somewhat misleading, and I really would like to see it somehow altered to refer to islamic extremism, because unqualified as such, it infers that all of the articles are about true islam, which it is not. In that way, you may attract contributors that are put off by seeing the titles of the posts (to say nothing of the fact that the name-calling exchanges wouldn't also put off potential contributors). I do agree that posting of articles is not bigotry, but I feel threads like this have a greater purpose. I know, it's your thread, so just put that one in the suggestion box, or tell me to get lost. You are a contributor of this thread whose opinion matters to me. As such, I will attempt to delineate my reasons for the title as it currently stands. I am not saying that all muslims are extremists, contrary to the picture some here may paint of me. Rather, I am trying to point out that islam in its current form, intertwined so closely with politics, is dangerous, not just for the young people and women in its midst, but for all of the world. When the people do not stand up to tyranny, all are to blame at least in part. I use the analogy of WWII. If I had been around then, I would have slammed the German system, even though all were not to blame. But in fact, many went along, making a terrible situation even worse allowing the slaughter to continue unabated. I read articles such as this on a daily basis, with little evidence the people of the muslim world by and large want to be rid of these fanatics. And let's be honest here, if the radicals were such a small minority of the population as many claim, there would be absolutely no problem with the people rising up against them. But for some reason they are not.Message 23332941 If people truly believe that a thread title change would make for a better environment for discourse, I will gladly do that. But honestly, IMO there is a problem in islam, radicals are just a part of that problem. Many mainstream muslims think it is perfectly acceptable to use suicide bombing as a tactic. Exhibit A: Dozens coming to congratulate the mother of a suicide bomber. Surely this cannot be termed and anomaly.Message 23236372 Many view honor killings as acceptable. And the stoning of women. This is a problem islam has got to face. And the first step to facing any problem is acknowledgement that it exists. Regards, BTB
