Very thoughtful reply -- I must confess ignorance of such atrocities during the US Civil War -- priests skinned alive -- oh my, that trumps beheadings.

Do you see a way out of this mess? I sense the window of opportunity to avoiding catastrophic conflict is closing too rapidly. Some say the Iranian youth can change the situation there. Possibly. Just remember the clock is running, nuclear weapons and Ahmadinejad's professed desire to usher in the twelfth imam, is a toxic combination -- this does not bode well.

Consider this -- Ahmadinejad is either truthful and signaling his plans, or he is a liar – there is no other rational conclusion to be formed from his comments. He has placed himself into a lose-lose situation where nothing he says can be believed and the Mullah’s, although backing off a bit now, have backed him too long and their credibility, from a western perspective, is tarnished as well.

After reading your comments I sense you are as frustrated as the rest of us. We have a common enemy with no apparent solution to the problem.

I hate to keep beating the same old horse, but meaningful communication is more that a discussion. The philosophical pre-suppositions MUST BE confronted. Hopefully, a verifiable compromise is still attainable -- this is axiomatic for survival.

Even here on the thread, the discussions appear confrontational because of these seemingly, irreconcilable philosophical differences -- nothing else -- period.

Looking to the outside and we see men like Ahmadinejad stating that he's going to exterminate all Jews, along with Israel and possible the US to boot. Such goals must be relinquished. Unfortunately as stated above, he has willfully placed himself and Islam, by inference, in a position where in subsequent statements will be viewed with increasing and rightful skepticism. As distasteful as it may be to Islam, they must do more than simply talk and make promises. How about those anti-Israel text used in arab and Muslim schools? Seeing those books, with the historical distortions and hatred contained, does not bolster Islam’s image of sincerity – such books are simply instruments of propaganda and we all know it.

Hopefully we can agree that Israel has relinquished a lot without good faith in return.

The way things are going, the first one to strike wins -- and everyone loses.

Your mission is to come up with a solution to this mess.
